Altar Servers

We have a growing team of Altar Servers at St Gerard's who are trained to a very high standard. The Servers assist the Priest during Holy Mass and help to prepare and clear up the Church before and after Mass. All boys & girls who have made their First Communion are most welcome to join. There is no upper age limit.

We have a large number of Parishioners who proclaim the Sacred Scripture at both our Sunday and Weekday Masses. There is a monthly rota organised for Sunday Readers.

Ministers of the Eucharist

Our Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist assist the Priest with the distribution of the Holy Eucharist at Mass on both Sundays & Weekdays and also take Communion to the homes of those in our parish who through illness or infirmity cannot join us for Holy Mass. Ministers of the Eucharist are chosen by the Parish Priest and are commissioned each year during the Mass of the Lord's Supper on Holy Thursday.

Parish Choir

The Parish Choir lead the music liturgy at our Sunday 10.00am Mass each week and on other special occassions throughout th year. The Choir practice in the Church every Thursday at 7.00pm and is led by Bernie Gribben. New memembers always welcome!

Music Group

The Music Group originally played for many years at the Sunday evening Mass in St Gerard's and then laterly at the Vigil Mass. Since both of these have ended, the group now play at the 10.00am Mass on the First Sunday of the Month. They also play at other events throughout the year and at school Masses. The group is made up of both instrumentalists and vocalists who play a wide varitety of both traditional and contemporary hymns. The Music Group is led by Donna Graham and Debbie Brennan.

Children's Liturgy

The Children's Liturgy is new to St Gerard's and started in late 2014. It is run by a large team of volunteers who led the Children during the 10.00am Mass each Sunday in their own liturgy of the word. The Children's Liturgy is open to all children of primary school age.

Our Parish Sacristans are Mr Joe Hughes and Mr Danny McAfee. The Sacristans prepare the Church for Holy Mass, serve at weekday Masses and Funerals, and carry out many important and vital roles within the Parish.

The Pass-keepers welcome parishioners as they come to Mass, distrubute the bulletin and other leaflets at the back of the church, take up the collection during Mass and help to ensure everything is as it should be for Mass.

Society of St Vincent de Paul (SSVP)

The Society of St Vincent de Paul, or SSVP, is a worldwide confederation of national charities with about 750,000 members. Membership is open to men and women, young and old.

The SSVP asks that members accept fully the Christian ethos of the SSVP, and are committed to express their love of God through personal service to their neighbour. The SSVP respects religious liberty and values of all people and offers help to anyone in need.

We have a small number of parishioners who are members of the SSVP & meet on Thursday evenings.

Caritas Award

The Caritas Award has been established by the Bishops of Scotland as one way of keeping alive the legacy of Pope Benedict’s historic visit to our country in 2010.

It takes 3 elements - Witness, Learning & Reflection - and provides a structure through which to experience, record and share the impact of these on their faith journey.

The award takes a snap-shot of a young person’s faith witness in one year but is built on the learning and reflection that (s)he has experienced over the course of time within school.  It is hoped that the award will encourage young people to recognise that they are part of a community of living faith and to consider how they can share their gifts and talents with the wider Church in the future.

Since its establishment in 2011, a number of our young parishioners have taken part in the Caritas Award Scheme.

Youth Club

The Youth Club has been running for over forty years every week in St Gerard's Primary School. The Youth Club currently runs on a Monday & Thursday evening for P4-7 pupils of St Gerard's Primary.

This is a new group which is still in its early days. The group is aimed at catholics aged 25-40's (those normally cut off from the Church) and is an informal group that will meet regularly to pray and socialise. The group is run between St Gerard's & Sacred Heart Parishes and is open to parishioners of both parishes as well as from other parishes.

Details of group gatherings will be posted in the Parish Bulletin & Facebook page.

Church Cleaners

The Church is cleaned every Monday at 9.00am. The cleaning is carried out by a team of loyal volunteers from the parish who give up their time each week to ensure that God's House is kept clean & tidy for our worship.

Volunteers are always in demand, so if you can spare an hour or so, please come along and help out.

St Gerard's has always been fortunate to have well kept grounds and gardens. Former Parish Priest, Canon Brosnan, took great pride in the gardens and spent a lot of time taking care of them. Today the gardens are maintained by Danny, Jim & Eddie.
