This Wednesday, 17 February, is Ash Wednesday and begins the holy season of Lent. Although our Churches are closed and we cannot gather together to pray, you are still encouraged to pray at home and grow closed to God during this penitential season. The Bishops' Conference of Scotland has produced some resources for praying at home.
These include:
a short liturgy prepared by Father Stuart for families to use at home on Ash Wednesday
a short liturgy which has been designed by the Bishops' Conference for use by for individuals or family groups to celebrate Ash Wednesday (This text anticipates that they will have access to a sachet of ash or can burn a palm from last year.)
a short form of the Stations of the Cross for use at home during Lent
Prayers at Home for the Day of Prayer for those who have suffered abuse are for use on the Friday after Ash Wednesday (19th February 2021). The readings and prayers may also be included in a live-streamed holy hour or other devotions. The prayers of intercession may also be used at Mass on Friday 19 February when one of the Eucharistic Prayers for Reconciliation is also appropriate.
