Rev. Patrick O'Hare was born on 27th March 1927 in Ireland and was ordained a Priest for the Diocese of Motherwell in 1953.

 

Following his ordination in 1953, he was appointed Assistant Priest of St Barbara's Muirhead. In 1958 he was then appointed to St Bride's Cambuslang where he remained as assistant until 1967 when he moved to become assistant Priest of St Clare's, Easterhouse.

 

In 1972 Father O'Hare received his first Parish Priest appointment to St Paul's Whitehill, Hamilton. He served in St Paul's Parish from 1972 until 1977 when he came to St Gerard's.

 

He became the second Parish Priest of St Gerard's in 1977, succeeding Rev. Patrick Moss. He remained Parish Priest of St Gerard's until 1984 when he was appointed Parish Priest of Sacred Heart Salsburgh and St Catherine's Harthill. 

 

In 1992 he was appointed Parish Priest of St Thomas', Wishaw where he remained until 2002 when he retired from active ministry. Whilst at St Thomas', one of his curates was Fr Kevin McGoldrick, a future Parish Priest of St Gerard's. 

 

Canon O'Hare sadly passed away on Wednesday 30th March, 2016 in Our Lady, Mother of Mercy Nursing Home, Newry. His Requiem Mass was celebrated on Tuesday 5th April 2016 in St Catherine's Church Newry.
