Pilgrimage Walk to Carfin Grotto
On Saturday 1st October 2016, our Parishes will make a Pilgrimage Walk to Carfin Grotto for the Year of Mercy.
The day will begin with Holy Mass at 9.30am in St Gerard's Church for the feast of St Therese. Following Mass, those who are physically able, are invited to walk from St Gerard's Church to Carfin Grotto where we will gather around 12noon for a Rosary Procession with those who were unable to walk. The Procession will take place in the Grotto (weather permiting) and will pass through the Holy Door, ending with Benediction in the Parish Church and an opportunity to venerate a relic of St Therese.
It is hoped that a large number of parishioners, especially young families, will take part in this walk. Those taking part must be physically fit enough for the walk which is around 4 miles and takes roughly 1hr 20mins to walk.
Those who are not able to walk are still invited to take part by joining us for Mass in St Gerard's and then joining us again for the Procession at Carfin Grotto at around 12noon.
After the Procession, pilgrims will then be free to have lunch in the pilgrimage centre and to explore the Grotto. Pilgrims will be responsible for making their own way home (walking, car sharing, public transport).
Those taking part will be responsible for themselves and should only take part if they are physically able to walk the distance.
Pilgrims should dress appropriately and wear sensible footwear.
After the event, pilgrims are responsible for making their own way home.
There is a regular train service from Carfin train station (directly across from the Grotto) to Bellshill.
